Focus on having unique & accurate content
The product description should be considered your main page. By providing the most relevant and accurate information first, you make it easier for the Amazon algorithm to match your content with the user search intent.
Provide content that helps both the fast shoppers (who probably don’t scroll below the fold), and those doing market research (below the fold). The fast shoppers are served well through Amazon's bullet pointing in the top description. It has more space than the title and almost the same importance on ranking. Highlight specific product features such as color, size or weight and incorporate keywords, that are highly converting. Their position is not relevant. A|B test in order to improve your performance.
Another optimization opportunity is the product images. This is one of the most important sales drivers. They might not directly affect the Amazon search ranking. However, a high conversion rate and low bounce rate lead to improvements in position. Thus, showing the perfect converting product image might give you the extra percentage you need.

Use longtail keywords in product names
Keywords are essential on Amazon. Similar to the page title on Google search, the product title in the Amazon search is one of the most important ranking factors. A good keyword research is key (read our latest whitepaper: ‘The Last Keyword Research You’ll Need’ on our website).
By using longtail descriptive keywords, you’ll make it easier for the users to identify your products as the ones they’re looking for - faster and more accurately.
Remember to always list the product features and attributes like colors and sizes, which could also help improve your conversion rates.
The most important tip is to think in terms of all the possible words and terms the user could use to find your product. What problems does your product solve and what would be the immediate way of finding it? Understand this intent and work with it.

If you are still operating on a HTTP site, then you should read below…
Google Chrome will soon start marking your website as "insecure". This can potentially have a negative avalanche effect on your website performance. Imagine this:
- Potential customers will leave your site
- This leads to a higher bounce rate
- This indicates to Google that the content was not what the user was looking for
- Decreased page rank
- Less traffic to site
- Less turnover
If you don't have an SSL certificate (HTTPS) yet, then you should act now, and this is the step-by-step guide:
1. Install an SSL certificate. Depending on your hosting provider this can easily be done in a few clicks.
2. Before enforcing HTTPS only on your domain, you should make a 301 redirect from the HTTP page to the corresponding HTTPS page.
3. Make sure no external resources are picked up by an insecure website, like images or scripts (in most cases this can be corrected by changing the link from HTTP to HTTPS)
4. Fix internal links, so they point directly to the HTTPS version.
5. Add the HTTPS version to Google Search Console, or else you will not pick up the data from all organic HTTPS results.

Don’t treat it like Google Search
Many make the mistake of using the same strategy for Amazon as they do on Google. They fail to recognize, that even though there are parallels, many differences exist. In order to SEO optimize on Amazon, one needs to understand the basic ranking factors. In just a few days the updated version of the Chrome browser will label HTTP-websites as "not secure" and potentially scare your visitors away. What does that mean?
If your website is still running on HTTP instead of HTTPS you will have to consider the consequences and make changes. Google is stepping up the game against un-encrypted internet traffic and the latest Chrome move is another nudge in that direction. The Chrome browser holds 56% market-share so expect that more than half of your website users will be met with a warning label that your site is "not secure". Besides ruining the user experience, it will likely lead to a higher bounce rate and shorter sessions. This tells Google that your website is less relevant which lowers your ranking on Google.
When you are going to migrate to HTTPS (we strongly support this) then do make sure to implement proper redirects from your old HTTP pages.

50% of product searches in the US start on Amazon, according to data by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In the Nordics on the other hand, Amazon is holding only ca. 2% of the market share. Clearly, you want to assess the Amazon-opportunity internally - prior to jumping on the bandwagon of a reform or revolution.

DIGITAL NEWS: YouTube Got a Strong Competitor You Should Know About
Yesterday, Instagram announced the launch of IGTV, an extended video-function allowing Instagram users to post videos with a length up to 60 min. Currently, the video restriction on feed videos is 1 min. This way, Instagram is offering content-marketers and influences the chance to target over 1 billion users through a tool, accommodating the habits of "generation mobile". Starting off to play videos right after opening and allowing to watch it while browsing other content is indeed resembling a TV. The function will be launched over the coming weeks on iOS and Android.
We are following the development closely and look forward to seeing what will happen and more importantly how we can leverage this for our customers in the future.

Avoid losing important data! – You need to make this update to your Google Analytics settings within the next 2 days.
We want to make you aware that GDPR directly impacts the data availability in Google Analytics as Google will start automatically deleting data older than 26 months. It is possible to change this default setting of “26 month” in Analytics, but it has to be done before the 25th of May, otherwise you might lose a big part of your historical data.
This is how you fix it:
Step 1: Go to “Admin Interface” (Bottom left corner in your GA interface)
Step 2: Go to ”Tracking Info”
Step 3: Go to ”Data Retention”
Step 4: Update the “User and event data retention”
Depending on your Google Analytics setup, and which country you operate in, different data storing periods are required. We recommend that you consider what is required for you, to ensure the correct amount of data is stored.

It’s time to update your meta description – or else your organic CTR might take a hit!
Google has confirmed that they are rolling back the change made to increase search snippets result, and will decrease the length of the organic snippets from ~300 to the original ~160 characters.
We questioned the longer snippets when they were rolled out in December, as it made the SERP more cluttered, which we expected would decrease CTRs. Google must have seen a change in their data since they’re enforcing the change worldwide.
We are still seeing snippets with 300 characters (typically in position 1, 2 or 3) but most results have already been decreased in size to ~160 characters and even smaller on mobile.
It will be interesting to see how or if organic CTRs are going to improve, and more importantly how quickly the internet will react to the change.

Attention all Google Shopping advertisers!
Amazon appears to have abruptly shut down their Google Shopping program.
While their text ads are still active, their complete withdrawal from the Shopping auctions is likely to have a big effect on avg. CPCs and impression share for many advertisers.
We have already seen the effects across a wide range of our customers and have adjusted our set-ups accordingly. However, we are excited to see if Amazon will maintain this new strategy or revert back.
